Procedure

Phase A: Combine ingredients 1-3 with mixing. Add sodium hydroxide with mixing. Mix until uniform. Heat batch to 70°C. In a separate vessel, combine ingredients 5-7. Disperse Pemulen TR-1 Polymer in this oil phase and heat to 70°C. At 70°C, slowly add phase B to phase A using moderate agitation. Mix until
uniform. Homogenize batch with Ultra-Turrax homogenizer for 1 minute at 6000 rpm. Neutralize batch with sodium hydroxide (18%) to pH of 6.5-7.0. Mix until uniform. Begin cooling batch. When batch has cooled to below 40°C, add phase D ingredients (9-12) to batch one at a time with mixing. Mix until uniform.

Appearance—White lotion; pH—6.5–7.0; Viscosity (mPa·s) Brookfield RVT @ 20 rpm,25°C, #4 spindle, measured after 24 hours—2,000 – 4,000; Stability—Passed 3 months @ 45°C, 3 cycles freeze/thaw.
